Algae biodiesel is where the future of
biodiesel is at. Period. End of story.
Congratulations. You found the section of this
site where I am giving away the farm. If there is any section
on this site that is worth studying, this is it. The
information presented in this section is worth money. People
PAY ME to advise them in this area. I'm giving it to you for
free. Sound interesting? It is...keep reading.
Why? Because I can. Knowledge should be
shared, not hoarded.
This page represents the gate way into the most
fascinating aspects of biodiesel production. See, the main
problem with biodiesel is, as a country, we can't make enough
of it. I'm talking on a scale which will enable the country to
climb out of the petrol-hydrocarbon-fossil fuel mess we are in.
There is simply not enough land area to grow crops for
biodiesel and food too.
Enter Algae. The cool thing about algae is,
petro-fuel was created from algae millions of years ago.
Compressed over time, and it turned into the stuff we're using
now.
Algae can produce per unit area yield of oil
from algae, estimated to be from between 5,000 to 20,000
gallons per acre, per year), is 7 to 31 times greater than the
next best crop, palm oil (635gal).
However, that doesn't mean for a second you
can't make enough of it for your own needs and save a ton of
money on transportation and heating oil costs. Save the world
another time. Right now, save your own bank account.
In this section we are going to focus on using
algae as a feedstock for biodiesel, making biodiesel from
algae, biodiesel algae production, algae biodiesel farms,
algae
biodiesel oil extraction, growing algae at home, algae strains for biodiesel, growing biodiesel
algae and harvesting biodiesel
algaeThe difficulties in efficient biodiesel production
from algae lie not in the extraction of the oil, which can
be done using methods common to the food-industry such as
hexane extraction, but in finding an algal strain with a
high lipid content and fast growth rate that isn't too
difficult to harvest, and a cost-effective cultivation
system (i.e., type of photo bioreactor) that is best suited
to that strain.
Open-pond systems for the most part have been
given up for the cultivation of algae with high-oil content.
Many believe that a major flaw of the Aquatic Species Program
was the decision to focus their efforts exclusively on
open-ponds, this makes the entire effort dependent upon the
hardiness of the strain chosen, requiring it to be
unnecessarily resilient in order to withstand wide swings in
temperature and pH, and competition from invasive algae and
bacteria.
Research into algae biodiesel for the
mass-production of oil is mainly focused on micro algae, as
opposed to macro algae, (ie. seaweed). This preference towards
micro algae is due largely to its less complex structure, fast
growth rate, and high oil content- (for some species).
